Building in Public: From Personal AI to Business Tool

Testing on Yourself First

One of the most valuable lessons I've learned building Conversify is the importance of dogfooding your own products. Before rolling out any new feature to customers, I test it extensively on my own systems first.

This personal AI assistant on my website is a perfect example. It has full access to my todos, habits, diary entries, and blog drafts. I use it daily to manage my life, track my Ironman 70.3 training, and maintain my productivity systems. Every interaction teaches me something about what works and what doesn't.

The key benefits of this approach:

  • Real usage patterns: I discover edge cases that theoretical testing misses
  • Authentic feedback: I feel the pain points as a user, not just a builder
  • Faster iteration: No external coordination needed for quick fixes
  • Confidence: By the time it reaches customers, I know it works

The Business Pivot Opportunity

Now I'm seeing a clear path to convert this personal AI into a powerful business tool. The core concept is simple but powerful: businesses could have their own AI assistant that integrates with Conversify's central chat system.

Here's how it could work:

For Business Owners

  • Chat with their business AI through our central Conversify interface
  • Get real-time reports on customer interactions
  • Receive insights about customer behavior and trends
  • Access analytics on WhatsApp campaign performance
  • Manage customer segments and targeting

The Technical Architecture

Business Owner → Conversify Central Chat → Business AI Assistant
                      ↓
                 Customer WhatsApp Messages
                      ↓
Reports & Analytics Back to Owner

Value Propositions

  1. Centralized Command Center: Manage all customer communications from one interface
  2. AI-Powered Insights: Get intelligent analysis of customer conversations
  3. Real-time Monitoring: See what's happening with customers as it happens
  4. Automated Reporting: Daily/weekly summaries without manual work
  5. Proactive Alerts: Get notified about important customer issues or opportunities

The Development Path

Starting with my personal site gives me the perfect testing ground:

  1. Refine the AI conversation patterns
  2. Test different integration approaches
  3. Understand what data is most valuable
  4. Build robust error handling
  5. Optimize for performance at scale

Once I'm confident in the core functionality, I can package it as a premium Conversify feature. Business owners would essentially get their own version of what I have here - but connected to their customer data and WhatsApp interactions.

Next Steps

The plan is to:

  • Continue refining the personal AI based on daily usage
  • Map out the business data integration points
  • Design the central chat interface for business owners
  • Build the reporting and analytics layer
  • Test with a small group of existing Conversify customers

This is exactly the kind of organic product development I believe in - build something you use yourself, then find ways to share that value with others.

Building in public means sharing both the successes and the messy middle. This AI assistant started as a personal productivity tool, but every day I use it, I see more clearly how it could transform how business owners interact with their customers.
